The 'payoff' is that you can totally automate DB creation: field defs and
layout defs.
Years ago I wrote (and distributed here and elsewhere) the KQasFM package
which did just that...and more.
It relied on KeyQuencer and AppleScript to auto-create: field defs, layouts
(named only...which was really helpful b/c the layout must exist before
other scripts are imported or things break) and so on.
It was an entirely GUI-scripted process (that's what KeyQuencer did) and was
ugly...and worked.
(In fact, if one uses OS 9 classic and a pre-FM 7 era FM, you can still
download and use it.)
But...these days, the Dev versions of FM and other FM features, such as the
ones you mention, Bruce, make it quite obsolete in practice. The automation
of DB creation, however, is /not/ obsolete and is still entirely useful.
Even still in FM, when importing FM ScriptMaker scripts, if fields and
layouts do not exist to 'match' the names of those in the FM scripts, then
connections break. Tools that automate "shells" of DBs are useful for
migration and replication, especially from development versions to
production versions.
