Which only goes to show that application counts are a poor metric in this
case. Look at the Finder dictionary as an example: there are entries that
say "not yet available" that have been described thus since 10.0 came out.
That can't charitably be described as anything other than neglect, for
whatever the reason.

But they're all add-ons (not to mention in some cases buggy); the underlying
stuff is largely as it was 15 years ago. It's old code, and grand plans that
were once talked about in this very place, like AppleScript 2.0, have
seemingly been shelved.

But it's still largely ancient code, and the number of people assigned to
work on it is miniscule. Yes, it's still important, and yes, it's being
maintained -- but it's clearly not getting the resources I think most of us
believe it needs.
