Do you happen to know how to view or manipulate these Launch Services caches?


You could have a look at the command "lsregister", located in following directory:
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/
Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/
You may run it without arguments, or with option "-h", to get some usage help.
