BTW, thanks for mentioning the details about trying to trash the item. I have attained roughly the same behavior by trying to do the same on an non-admin account on Mac OS X 10.4.10 (PPC). It's now noted in the Installation section of the Documentation for MetaData.osax.

To be on the sure side, I also recommend that you restart after installing the new version. For some reason unfathomable to me at the moment, Script Editor on Mac OS X 10.4.10 (PPC) doesn't do well with the 'system info' command until after a reboot.
