On 10/23/07 at 7:40 AM, Gil Dawson <email@hidden> spake thusly:
I wish to create an application that supports a single control
window. The window contains a few text boxes and several
buttons. I wish to code in AppleScript the operations that
happen when the user clicks on the buttons or types into the
text boxes, and what appears in the text boxes.
I could build the window in Filemaker, then run the AppleScript
routines from Filemaker scripts. However, this would require
that Filemaker be installed in target machines. This is
workable, but expensive.
Can you think of a way that an AppleScript can create a window
and put widgets on it without involving another application?
Or perhaps a cheaper application?
Nope.
Before I go research these things, perhaps you know off the top
of your head whether Smile or XCode is likely to have what I'm
looking for. Automater, maybe?
Either Smile or Xcode can do this. I don't think Automator is
capable of it but I could be mistaken, I don't use it much.
I'm looking for some general guidance here, then I'll go do the research.
FaceSpan (which isn't free) can also create such an application.
There are other options such as Pashua that can create dialogs
for you. I wouldn't even consider Filemaker unless the window's
widgets were controlling Filemaker.
Both Xcode and FaceSpan can create standalone applications which
are portable. Smile would require Smile installations on the
target machines. Pashua would also have some installation
requirements on the target machines.
