Both "theArchivist" and "Crontooie" (freeware--view or download at http://quicksilver.caup.washington.edu/software) are XCode/Applescript Studio applications, with windows, widgets, buttons, etc. It's actually quite straight forward, and if I can do it, (well let's not go there) ....

Hello--

I wish to create an application that supports a single control
window. The window contains a few text boxes and several buttons. I
wish to code in AppleScript the operations that happen when the user
clicks on the buttons or types into the text boxes, and what appears
in the text boxes.

I could build the window in Filemaker, then run the AppleScript
routines from Filemaker scripts. However, this would require that
Filemaker be installed in target machines. This is workable, but
expensive.

Can you think of a way that an AppleScript can create a window and
put widgets on it without involving another application? Or perhaps
a cheaper application?

Before I go research these things, perhaps you know off the top of
your head whether Smile or XCode is likely to have what I'm looking
for. Automater, maybe?

I'm looking for some general guidance here, then I'll go do the research.
