I have 5 different Macs using Leopard, and none of them experience
drop-offs when being used. The powerbooks have problems reconnecting
after waking from sleep mode, but that happened under Tiger, too.
Turning off/on airport on the machine corrects the problem, usually
right away, sometimes repeated attempts are required, rarely resetting
the airport base-station is required. One of the most annoying problems,
though, is degraded throughput, which I only noticed recently on
Leopard. I'm using the newest 802.11n airport base stations, restricted
to only specific Mac addresses with WPA2 and password security, and
occasionally, the speed drops off to 11mbs or less, and won't go higher
for love nor money. In that case, the only thing that restores the
high-speed is to reset the base station, then all is okay. I have
verified that there is no extraneous connection/activity during degraded
performance, so it appears there might be a base station problem. But
generally, the wireless network has been very reliable.
I, 3 different people in my home, and a couple of other people at work
who've all upgraded our MacBook Pros to Leopard are all experiencing
Airport dropoffs. In most cases, just choosing the network again isn't
even enough. We have to turn off Airport and turn it back on to
reconnect. There are many others who describe the same issues on the
Apple forums. Many seem to have found fixes for their situation, but
those fixes don't work for many others. There have been several
updates now to Leopard that have mentioned Airport connectivity
issues. Each one has seemed to make the problem worse.
