do shell script hanging

I'm using a very simple 'do shell script' :

do shell script "/Applications/Firefox2.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P toto &"

the last '&' is suppose to detach the script however, when i run it
saved as an application, it is hanging for something, what and why ?

this script is used to launch Firefox under another user name than the
default one, it permits having two differents firefox running.

the script called 'Firefox2Launch.app' is hanging and i need to force
quit it ...

by the way is it possible, from AppleScript, to manipulate the dock,
as it is done with "The Gimp" the true app icon replacing the launcher
one ?

best,
