Hi Selva, welcome to the group!
I don't know that I'd call the AppleScript Language Guide *the*
introductory document, though it's definitely something you should be
aware of if you're going to be writing AppleScript. The difficulty is
that it's mostly written as a language reference, which a lot of
people don't do well with as a first lesson. Fortunately, there are a
variety of third-party books available with a more tutorial-like style
-- try searching Amazon for "AppleScript" to get a quick list.
Also, if your interest is more in automation in general than in
AppleScript specifically, you should be aware of the other options
available, notably Automator and the various other scripting languages
available on Mac OS X (Python, Ruby, Perl, Tcl, etc.), which may be a
better fit for you and what you're doing. (Or maybe not. A lot of it
is personal taste. And there's nothing wrong with learning more than
one. It's generally encouraged, in fact.)
