It's not that Tiger is useless on an Intel.

It's that - for about as long as there have been Macs - you cannot install
an earlier version of the OS - not even a dot-dot sub-version - than the
version it came with. It's a good reason for buying a new Mac just before a
new major version like Leopard comes out. It's also a good reason, if you
develop scripts or applications for others, not to sell off your old Mac.
