Recently I had the need to use the modem to dial into a conference so
that I could record the landline audio with the computer. I did this,
on Leopard, using the 'cu' command-line utility. Of course, the phone
had to stay off hook after dialing, so there could be no timeout
allowed, as the conference lasted 2 hours! This was not a function of
the software, but rather the AT command set. To dial the number and
prevent the modem from hanging up when no carrier is detected, simply
add a semi-colon to the end of the command string, e.g., send
"ATDTnumber;" to the modem.
I used the Apple USB modem attached to the latest iMac. Worked great!
Although I used 'cu' you could probably use any software that sends AT
commands to the modem.

Internet Connect only dials the phone in order to connect to an ISP.
It does not have the ability to dial a number for a voice
conversation.
