There must be a work-around that would let me read the path to the
original item from the alias file, even if the original item is not
mounted. This information is surely within the alias file. But how
do I read it? Perhaps a 'do shell script ... ' is in order here.
A simple command-I will open the Get Info window, which will display
(among other things) the path to the alias.
What is weird is that its Finder properties shows the path if the
volume of the original item is mounted but shows "Missing Value" if
the volume is not mounted. Its System Event properties doesn't have
an "original item" property, though.
