Scripting FileMaker

Is there a limit to the number of characters that the export from FileMaker 9 imposes on an xls cell.
It happens both in the manual export and in the scripted export.

The specs say that it limits the character count to 32,767 character per cell but I am only getting 255.

If I export to tab delimited I get the whole 305 characters in my FileMaker text field.
I can take the Tab delimited files open them in Excel and save them out to Excel files and they
retain the total character count.

I am trying to Applescript a process and in doing so want to export Excel files of the found sets of data.

Any insight here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Oakley
