P.S. Yeah, I know, go file a feature request!

Well, yes. :-)

I have to say, I don't know of a single application that automatically dismisses file/folder choosing dialogs. Do you?

Chris,

I did file it (Bug ID# 6445230) and no, I don't know of any application that automatically dismisses file/folder dialogs, of course Applescript isn't exactly a normal application. I'm not asking for a change to the current behavior of these dialogs, far from it, I'm asking for extended functionality by adding optional parameters. As for file/folder dialogs, abort the script or open a default file/folder if no choice is made within the specified time. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have the ability.

The reason I mentioned this is because I don't always sit at my Mac when I'm running a long script unless a particular script contains dialogs which require an answer to continue. My morning launch script is a good example. It mounts disks but those disks sometimes change, it launches websites/RSS feeds which vary, it retrieves my email and starts my news reader and loads some groups which may vary. It's a very busy script and it's far quicker then manual operation but it could be better. All it needs to do is answer the "choose from list" dialogs with a set of defaults. This would allow for unmonitored operation while still including the ability to vary the choices at need. This would also make my dog very happy as she would have more time for her morning p-mail check at the local mailboxes :)

I rise at 4AM in order to be at work by 6:30AM with a 40 min. commute, my time is very limited in the morning and I do a lot of reading. The script saves me quite a bit of time but it still requires time that I could put to better use then clicking off dialogs e.g. fixing breakfast.

I see uses for this in a production environment without straining my limited brain power too much and I bet if you took a survey others would agree. Time is money in a production environment and tying someone to a computer to answer dialogs is wasteful.
