dialogs ...
I understand.
The reason I mentioned this is because I don't always sit at my Mac
when I'm running a long script unless a particular script contains
dialogs which require an answer to continue. My morning launch
script is a good example. It mounts disks but those disks sometimes
change, it launches websites/RSS feeds which vary, it retrieves my
email and starts my news reader and loads some groups which may
vary. It's a very busy script and it's far quicker then manual
operation but it could be better. All it needs to do is answer the
"choose from list" dialogs with a set of defaults. This would allow
for unmonitored operation while still including the ability to vary
the choices at need. This would also make my dog very happy as she
would have more time for her morning p-mail check at the local
mailboxes :)
A solution some people use is have the script check, for example, if
the Shift or Option key is pressed and do ‘choose file’ if it is. This
allows the user to press a modifier key to cause a dialog to ask them
to make a choice, but the script runs without user interaction by
default.
Or you can have your script read preferences that contain the defaults
and have another script for editing the preferences.
Thanks for your input. I understand what you're asking for.
