All,
Turns out that my sound "click.aiff" was not a valid aiff sound even "get info said it was.
A long time ago I took the system 7 sound and converted it to an aiff. Apparently it was not done correctly.
"Play Sound" would play it but nothing else would even recognize it.
and got a new sound (wav), converted it to an aiff
end code; do shell script "afplay /Users/rpoland/Documents/clutter/Sounds/click18a.aiff"

Leopard has a command line tool "afplay" that can play sound files. It can play AIFF, MP3 and I'm-not-sure-how-many-other formats. do shell script "afplay /path/to/some/file.aiff"
