By directly moving items to the trash, it is very likely that you're
short-circuiting that behavior.
Are you suggesting that the Finder offers a AppleScript command called
"delete <obj>" that behaves different from "move <obj> to trash"?

Sorry, it seems to have been a bad recall of mine: I really thought
that Finder's "delete" command would have honored the interactions
that might occur in the GUI.
But I've just tried here, and it appears that "delete" silently erases
a remote item without warning too.
