Not exactly, as iTunes is able to get, for example, a date's month.
The problem here is that iTunes itself defines a "year" property
(for an Audio CD playlist as well as for a track).
So, as you already have said it, and as Skeeve did too, one has to
somehow go outside of iTunes' terminology so as to avoid the clash.
This was just my 2 cents... ;-)

The year which is known by iTunes is
year (integer) : the year the track was recorded/released
which has nothing to do with the year of the
date added (date, r/o) : the date the track was added to the playlist
So, it's true that iTunes is able to work with a year but it's not
the one we were asked about ;-)
