I've always thought that "remove" would be a better command name in this situation than "delete". It is too similar to the Finder's delete command, which *does* move a file/alias to the Trash.

The Scripting Interface Guidelines agree with you: make and delete should be used to create/destroy objects completely, while add and remove should be used to add/remove existing objects to sub-groups. e.g. Compare Address Book, which uses add and remove to add/remove existing person objects to group objects. iTunes predates the SIG, however, and while its scripting interface is fairly extensive it does suffer a number of longstanding design quirks.

You should file bug reports and feature requests - as an authority on iTunes scripting, one would hope the iTunes engineers will give some weight to your input. Whether or not they can/should/will be acted on is ultimately going to depend on the amount of work involved to implement such changes, the amount of backwards- compatibility breakage that it'll cause for existing scripts, but hey, it's worth a shot.

Agreed. Backward compatibility is surely an issue. I'd be happy if they just fixed the bug. (I filed a bug report last night as soon as I figured it out. Can you believe it took nearly a month of v7.6 before I noticed it?). It's easy enough to delete a file if you really want to.

And thanks for the SIG info!
