However: You could also rename, and not move the file before deletion. So no need to move it around.

I doubt that delete has been buggy since iTunes v1.1 ;-)

Here's the thing: if this is a feature, then I guess I won't mind having to re-write a bunch of scripts which offer the option to preserve a file when deleting a track (as iTunes itself does). However, it doesn't make sense that iTunes deletes a file when for seven years it merely "removed" a track. While I think it is incredibly convenient that delete *does* move the file to the Trash, I would much prefer also being able to optionally preserve the file without all the file manipulation. I shouldn't have to move a file to a "hold" location or rename a file to keep it from being Trashed. And it sure screws up a lot of scripts out there, like Make Bookmarkable and Join Together.

As I have mentioned, perhaps a distinctive "remove" command should be added (like that's gonna happen--although they did add "Mute" to the Dock's iTunes contextual menu in 7.3 when I inquired) to remove a track from a playlist, library, or source, whereas "delete" can actually Trash its file. Dreamin' on.
