I want the user to put a file in that folder, and no matter what the
user names the file, I want my script to open it.

Is there a way to combine the path to desktop command you suggest with
another folder?

For example:

path to desktop:folder 1

Thanks.

The Folder Actions Script are what you need

on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items display dialog ( item 1 of added items) as text end adding folder items to

attach it to the "prints" folder
