I'd call that a reasonable question, not a dumb one.

To consolidate my feelings (and those of the person I'm helping) about iPhoto, these are the main reasons why I don't use iPhoto.

1) As it is, my image editing is done in Photoshop. From that point, other than using Automator to tag and upload, I'd like to be done opening programs. (The reason I use Automator for the tagging and uploading is that I can set the tags on the images and in Flickr with a couple of consolidated steps). 2) My photo collection is in the tens of thousands and growing daily. That makes me concerned about iPhoto's ability to work with that many images. 3) iPhoto duplicates files that are modified. While the idea of being able to revert to the original is a good one, it's not a feature I desire and, for me, leads to unnecessary bloat. 4) I prefer doing all of my file navigation and organization in the Finder.
