I'm looking for a simple (and inexpensive) way to password protect PDF files using AppleScript. I want to take a PDF and save it to a different location with a password on it. I was hoping that Preview could do it, but it's not even scriptable.

Create an encripted disk image file containing the pdf file(s). You can script this, but will have to use 'do shell script ...'. see the man page of 'hdiutil' for details.
