Not too sure what's going on at your end but I've also written
several scripts and converted them to services using
ThisService. Worked just fine on both my PPC G5 and my Intel
MacBook Pro. I'm also using 10.5.1
These are both short, you may want to compare them -
on process()
return (do shell script "date '+%D, %I:%M %p %Z'") as text
end process
on process(input)
open location "x-man-page://" & input
end process
