I must agree, however, that parsing CSV is much tricker than it seems, and that AppleScript is probably not the best tool for the job. If you have Office, then scripting Excel is probably the best solution from an AS point of view. If not... is AppleWorks/iWork scriptable?

AppleWorks 6 is scriptable but it ignores CSV

iWork's applications knew CSV (in a foolish way but they knew it) alas,

in Pages and in Keynote, the portion of code related to number crunching is not scriptable
Numbers is not scriptable at all.
