Do you have a chance to run a network analyzer (like wireshark) to see what and when the script does neworkwise?

Some Servers test which client you use. I don't know (and I don't think) hat yahoo is doing it, but maybe it's an option for you to let yahoo think your script is in fact some well known browser. Read curl's man page for details how to do this.
