A thousand "Amens" to this sentiment! 

For some reason, Unix gurus in particular seem especially prone to dropping cryptic hints at the answer, hints which may mean something to you if you already know a lot about Unix! For the novice, or the person who happens to be working outside his/her main area of expertise, it feels an awful lot like the guru is simply toying with you.
