Hi all - thanks for all comments.

It was really weird - I did try to run the script with Finder windows open, and something selected in the front one but no luck.

At the same time, I noticed (this was right after upgrading to 10.5.4) that Spotlight was not indexing my startup drive, so I followed instructions from a few different people on Apple discussion boards as well as MacFixit, and a Darwin guru mentioned deleting the Spotlight index in the drive, deleting a "no-index" file that found it's way there mysteriously, and rebuilding both LaunchServices and the prebindings.

After I did that, the script started working again...

Living and learning :)

But hey, thanks for all comments!

mike
