The conversation has (so far) had nothing to do with Acrobat. It's
been about Creative Suite in general.
Adobe sent out a survey asking people how they use the different
scripting models available in the Creative Suite applications, and how
they would likely be affected if some of them were dropped. This
generated suspicion among some that Adobe was considering dropping
support for all but their own ExtendScript model.
Someone posted that it's not likely that Adobe cares about those who
rely on Applescript's cross-application scripting abilities. I
responded that it would be difficult to ignore the needs of the huge
numbers of people that rely on the cross-application scripting
capabilities of Applescripting InDesign and Filemaker. This is based
on large publishers, newspapers, magazines, etc. that rely on
Applescript to publish information from databases. I could have given
other examples, like Cumulus.
It is actually VERY common for companies to script Filemaker and
InDesign (or XPress) to achieve nearly automated page layout. Many
others (myself included) script Creative Suite apps together with the
Finder, Microsoft Excel, ImageEvents, or other applications. The parts
of this thread that I have participated in had to do with my asking
whether such cross-application (Adobe apps excluded) scripting is even
possible with other scripting models. Every response from those who
know said, "No."

Right. Sorry, still confused; where does Adobe come in? Are people
cross-scripting between FileMaker and Acrobat in this scenario? Is
that a particularly common pairing?
