Hmm. 'curl -O http://www.apple.com' yields 'curl: Remote file name has
no length!' for some reason.
However, I am wondering if curl could help turning an AS alias into a
file URL. I have repeatedly looked at the curl man page, but nothing
reveals itself to me. Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks,
Rainer

could you elaborate on the concept of 'curling it', please?
He probably means to use the shell tool 'curl' in a 'do shell
script'.
The basic call is :
curl -O http://www.apple.com
Yes, he does.
That's what I meant.
You will get a returned result which you can use to "validate" the
URL at
that moment. If you're not connected to the net, then, of course,
it may
not be (or may be, if you're pointing to a locahost "http://";, for
example,
or a "file://" or other known protocol OYM.)
