Does anyone know if I can mount an "unmounted) volume, by name. Example volume abc was ejected ( for whatever reason). Can I mount it via AS?

Check out the man page for the 'diskutil' command-line utility. You can't mount an unmounted volume by its name, but you can list all the volume names and parse the output and get the device name and mount it from that. Sorry for all the conjunctions.

Thanks in advance.
