FM does not rely on the same UI widgets as provided by the Mac OS.
It never has.  Your guess is as good as mine as to why that is, given the
Liz Taylor marriage/divorce rate between Apple and FileMaker/Claris.

Why can't you script your process, without trying to auto-click the GUI?

You don't say there is any compelling reason why the "report" must be XML.
If it it's a "report", as you write, then the underlying format of that
report seems rather insignificant. Reports are for people.
