DS_Store files

One of my scripts sets bounds of folder windows. There seems to be a problem with the bounds not sticking with some folders. This lead me to look at .DS_Store files. I've searched my documentation in the Developer folder and Apple's site. Nothing! (#$%&!)

Does anyone know where I can find documentation on .DS_Store files?
(What do they contain and how do they work?)
