Title: Apps vs. Scripts - and of time we don't have
Hi all,
I have a rather long-running script I use for creating Toast archives (but bear with me, the app is actually of no importance for my question).
In the script, I have a sorting subroutine that takes ages more when I the script is run as an application rather than as a script, both versions being launched from the script menu.
“Why would he want to create an app, then ?” I imagine you asking.
Well, if something goes wrong or I wish to interrupt the wonderfully long and dull experience, only the app version allows me to do so, since the script one is more or less “invisible”, though it will interact through dialogs, but on errors only.
For an photo job of 1648 images (only 1’020 of those are actually “good” shots) the app version takes 1600 seconds(*) vs. the astoudingly fast 404 seconds the script takes.
The machine is a 2.4ghz Dual MacBookPro running 10.5.6. and (*) in the app case, the focus is not continually on it (which would make it slightly faster but oh so much more boring, thanks to a 24U’s appearance osax progress bar slow progression)
Thanks in advance for your insight and ideas,
Best,
j.
