That is odd (you'd expect it if the Finder, not GC, was being told to open
the file). Select any tiff in the Finder, right-click
 (option-click) and select Get Info (or press command-I).  Switch the Open
With popup to GraphicConverter, then click Change AllŠ button. I bet that GC
will now open your tiffs, in AS as well as in the Finder.
