I am looking for a workaround that will allow me to read/write data

I know that I can use the xlsread/xlswrite Matlab functions on

and incorporate it into my Matlab code.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can use AS to start Matlab, however, since Matlab runs in a X11
environment, I doubt you can script anything like what you want.
