You're on the wrong list; you should be learning to use FileMaker native commands until they don't do what you need. That is not the case for whatyou are doing.

Does apple even host a Filemaker list?

Much of what can be done in with filemaker native scripting can also be done through applescript, and one of the reasons many of us started using appleScript was so that we didn't have to learn a different scripting language for each application we scripted.

In many cases there may be more efficient or technically better ways to handle scripting tasks, but if it can be done in AppleScript, then AppleScripters would prefer that and this list is the right list for that.
