Keep is simple with Plain vanilla applescript to start. The AppleScript studio stuff should come after you've mastered appleScript, and may be beyond what's needed for this script.

Here's a couple pointers:

choose from list
choose folder

These commands are part of the standard editions and you can see their dictionary in Script Editor (File menu, Open Dictionary, Standard Additions, User Interaction suite)

Choose folder will return aliases. SInce you just want the names you can use the Finder to pull the name from the aliases.
