I am saddened by this too.
I use SD and FS4 on my OSX 10.4.11 system all the time.
I was really looking forward to the FS5 upgrade.
We really do need something between Script Editor and Xcode.
Wish you the best Mark and thanks for what you have done for us.
Actually, in quite a few ways, FS5, even in pre-beta stages, does things that ASS either can’t do sans ObjC code, or does the same things with FAR more elegance and ease of use. ASS has yet to have a reliable debugger for AppleScript that you can just turn on, and have work reliably run after run, and unlike ASS, code that ran correctly once in FS5 ran correctly the hundredth time, and every time in between. That was in stark contrast to ASS’s “may run, may not run, and you’ll have not changed anything”, along with the “meatcake” debugging in ASS, and the fact that sans ObjC, ASS is just crippled, and never gains any material new features from version to version, is why I simply refuse to waste my time with ASS.
The loss of FS5 is a huge blow to many, and quite a few projects that I’d been working on are gone and done unless Mark is able to get to a place where he can resume work on it, or Apple pulls their heads out wrt AppleScript support in Xcode. Either would work.
