Assigning keywords to a file without the use of Photoshop

Hello everybody,

Is there a smart (applescript) way to assign a keyword to a file without opening it in Photoshop?
This is how I would do it in Photoshop (version 11): File -> File info. And then the "Keyword" textarea under the first tab "Description".

Background info: I am a user of Extensis Portfolio (version 9.0). I'm a fan of Portfolio's powerful "Watched Folder" feature to collect images and automatically adding them to a catalog and (last but not least) extracting keywords from the added files.

Thanks for any help.

Bert.
