Has Snow Leopard changed Apple Script to such an extent as to make books on Apple Script such as Apples own 'Apple Script 1-2-3' obsolete?

No. But there are some changes, as there generally are with every major release of Mac OS X. See the 10.6 section of the May 2009 AppleScript Release Notes for details: < http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/releasenotes/AppleScript/RN-AppleScript/Introduction/Introduction.html >.

We plan to go over all the scripts in our AppleScript 1-2-3 book and post any necessary changes for Snow Leopard to the book's Web site. But it will likely take a while to accomplish this.
