I had this problem and thought is was an AS problem the list pointed me to my system fonts where I had multiple couriers installed some how after upgrading to 10.6. I was able to resolve the conflicts and haven't had the problem since.

Ok, so it's not a universal problem? I still *have* Courier, but it's
scrambled. By which I mean, the glyphs seem intact, but their mapping
to code points has been randomly shuffled. Suddenly <pre> became
short for "prevent reading".

At least a few other prople on the Apple fora had this problem, too,
and their only solution was "don't do that" - I.e. use a different
font, Courier New being the obvious choice.
.
Anyway, sorry for the OT thread. Totally not AS related other than
the fact that I was playing along at home with the thread about losing
script editor format preferences when I noticed the problem.

G'day Mark

Do you need a copy of the Courier Font?

On my 10.6.1 there are both Courier and Courier New
