In late Aug 2009, Bill Cheeseman noted problems with list view folder windows that have not yet been fixed.
Today, I've noticed more problems with list view folder windows. They may or may not involve AppleScript (I haven't yet had time to test), but they do indicate a problem with Snow Leopard. It's a long story ...
In early Nov, I had to have the logic board in my mini replaced. Last week, my mini quit working. All I could get at startup was a kernel panic ... so, new logic board, again (under warranty). I got it back yesterday. The only thing in common with these failures is my Snow Leopard installation, so I decided to reinstall.
I backed up, did an erase and install of 10.5 onto my startup partition, then immediately ran the Snow Leopard installer to update to 10.6. Running the combo updater brought me up to 10.6.5.
Notice (because it may be important) that I did not set any preferences in 10.5.
All list view folder windows created on the previous Snow Leopard installation continue to behave correctly.
Here's the problem ...
When a new folder is created and set to list view, the name column is so narrow that all I can see is names shortened to "Ab...yz". And the order of the name column is reversed. If I widen the name column, then change the order, the column narrows, again. If I close the list view window, then open it, all changes to the name column are lost.
This seems to indicate a serious problem with list view folder windows in Snow Leopard. Perhaps the problem is caused by the way Snow Leopard is installed by updating Leopard.
Has anyone noticed this on a direct Snow Leopard installation?
Is there a direct Snow Leopard install disk?
Any other comments?
