It must be; I haven't scripted anything in address book in 10.6, but I know that in 10.4 and earlier (and maybe in 10.5), it was "save addressbook".  But I can confirm your dictionary observation.

And as a sanity check, I just compiled
tell app "address book" to save addressbook

The compiled script is
tell application "Address Book" to save

To further complicate things, in the standard suite, we find this:

save v : Save a document.
save specifier : The document(s) or window(s) to save.
[in file] : The file in which to save the document.
[as archive] : The file format to use.
