Inconsistency

I had intended to spend this afternoon looking at AppleScriptObjC and Xcode. Then I found a problem that got me off track. I was sent an AppleScriptObjC Xcode project. One of the files was a Smile document with a .applescript extension. When double-clicked, nasty things happened such as 1) it opened in Smile and 2) it launched Xcode. After an exchange of emails, I am told that it's an ASE document, not a Smile document. My afternoon has been wasted. @#$%!

Let's do some mathematics ...

Statement 1
A .scpt document created and saved by AppleScript Editor will open with ASE when double-clicked.
Proof: It was created by ASE.

Statement 2
A .scpt document has a Smile icon and opens with Smile when double-clicked.
Proof: Double-click it.

But, both of these statements cannot be true. We have a mathematical inconsistency, also known as a "bug". Does anyone know what is screwed-up here?
