You can't go wrong with Sal, and you can't go wrong with Matt either:

The nice thing about Matt's book is that he keeps it updated on his website so it's current with the current release of AppleScript.

Wouldn't be surprised is Sal doesn't do the same thing, but I just don't know.
Don't know if any of the other appleScript authors do that either, but with a new OS release every couple years it's a great idea.
If I were buying an appleScript book online updates would be a key factor.
