Hello Alan,
It was unclear you were referring to outgoing messages created oustide of a script, such as those created by a user with the "New Message" menu item.
(or it has been clear and I missed the point...)
Anyway, I confirm that such "external" outgoing messages can't be sent with the "send" command. In fact, even accessing the properties of such messages appears to be problematic.
Some in this thread have argued that this should be viewed as a bug.
But perhaps does this result from some privacy/security considerations?
Let's suppose I've clicked on the "New Message" button and begun to prepare a rather confidential message for a friend of mine; would it be reasonable to blindingly allow a script to send that message, for example with a copy to a public list?
You asked in a previous message: "If this is a bug, what would be the next step?".
I haven't tried, but I guess the UI scripting way could be of some help.
HTH,
