I agreed with nearly everything Bill said but this...

AppleScript was designed and marketed (to the extent it was designed or
marketed) as a scripting technology, using an English-like language, that
controls numerous applications from a wide variety of developers, making it
relatively easy for programmers and non-programmers to automate a wide range
of tasks, from simple and repetitive to large and complex workflows, which
can involve any number of scripted applications.

And to reinforce what Bill said, AppleScript was not designed to do the
heavy lifting of database management or access, but it was designed as a
technology to script various applications, including database applications,
like FM Pro.
