The OP is wrong. It is HelpViewer and he is not using the dictionary properly:
search v : Search the given help book, or all books, for the given text and display the result search specifier : the object for the command looking for text : The text to search for in Help
So, search the specifier, which was not given. I think it should be "current url" or something to this order. but it also does not produce much
On Snow Leopard poking around at Help Viewer/HelpViewer/com.apple.helpviewer (all of which approaches behave in the same manner) version 5.0.2, there is simply nothing to specify for a reference. Yes, the dictionary indicates that there is something called current url but I have yet to find any circumstance (opening various help books and pages) when there is a value for that property.
It all feels a little broken and/or incomplete to me. Unfortunately the target environment is 10.6, so I have no options there.
By "does not produce much" do you mean something other than it only activates the app?
