I suspect it's only invisible in the GUI. You should see it in the
Terminal, but it will likely display as: Icon?
(i.e. with a question mark at the end).

I've seen these on Windows or Samba shares as far as I remember. The
file is called "Icon^M" (i.e. Icon with a Ctrl-M character at the end)
and maybe your script did not like the control character in the name.
I think they are created by the Finder when you set a custom icon for
a file and the filesystem doesn't support resource forks or
attributes.
